Remote electronic reading room of the Presidential Library to open in Cairo

On June 16, 2022 a remote electronic reading room of the Presidential Library was open at the Russian House in Cairo as part of the anniversary XXV St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. This year Egypt is the forum’s guest country.

The solemn opening ceremony of the remote access center to the resources of the Presidential Library was held via video conferencing.

The Ambassador of Arab Republic of Egypt in Russia, Mr. Elnaggari, addressed the guests with a welcoming speech. The director of the Russian House in Cairo, Marat Gatin, and the head of the Russian language department at Ain Shams University, Mohamed Elgabeli, also attended the conference.

A presentation of the Presidential Library’s resources and the possibilities of their use were shown at the event. In the reading rooms of the library one has opportunity to get full access to the collections of the institution which contain more than a million depository items. They are electronic copies of books and periodicals, archival documents, audio and video recordings, photographs, educational films, abstracts of dissertations and other materials on the history of Russia. In addition to access to unique resources, with the opening of the electronic reading room, visitors have more opportunities to participate in conferences, webinars, video lectures and other events of the Presidential Library.

The Russian House in Cairo has been running for over 40 years. The greatest peak of its activity falls on the last decade, which is associated with a noticeable strengthening of political, economic and cultural relations between Egypt and Russia.

The Russian Center of Science and Culture in Egypt provides Russian language courses, computer courses, music and ballet studios, a modern dance school, a photo studio, a library and a video library.
