The Presidential Library takes part in library events in Minsk

The Presidential Library’s delegation takes part in the IX International Congress “The Library as a Cultural Phenomenon”, marking the 100th anniversary of the National Library of Belarus, and in the XXVI General Meeting of Members of the Library Assembly of Eurasia (LAE). The events are taking place in Minsk on September 15 and 16, 2022.

Acting Director General of the Presidential Library Yuri Nosov expressed his confidence that the participation in library events in Minsk will allow to implement new joint projects, will contribute to strengthening cooperation in the establishment of a single information and library platform.

The Presidential Library has been regularly participating in the Congress “The Library as a Cultural Phenomenon”, hosted by the National Library of Belarus, since 2012. This year within the section “Libraries in the Era of Digital Transformation of Society”, Director of Information Resources of the Presidential Library Elena Zhabko will give a presentation on digital technologies and preservation of intangible cultural heritage.

The Presidential Library and the National Library of Belarus are united by a great number of joint projects, exchange of information resources. Thus, rare and valuable materials and documents from the holdings of the National Library of Belarus have entered the Presidential Library’s collection, dedicated to the Great Patriotic War. In its turn, the Presidential Library is planned to transfer documents of the XIX – early XX century, associated with the history of the Belarusian land, to the collections of the National Library of Belarus within the framework of the congress.

One of the discussion themes at the XXVI General Meeting of Members of the Library Assembly of Eurasia will be a long-term development plan of the LAE for years 2023-2025. In a section, dedicated to providing remote access to the resources of the libraries-members of the LAE, one of the topics will be providing remote access to the resources of the Presidential Library. The library’s collections currently contain over a million digitized documents that objectively reflect the history of Russian statehood.

The Presidential Library closely cooperates with the LAE since 2009. During this time, numerous joint scientific, educational and publishing projects have been implemented, including the documentary “The Library Front of 1941-1945”, marking the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, calendar “National Libraries of the Commonwealth of Independent States”, marking the 30th anniversary of the LAE, events on professional development of specialists of libraries of the CIS’ countries, participation in the formation of joint electronic collections of documents on the history of the countries-members of the LAE.

During the visit to Minsk, on September 14, the Presidential Library’s delegation lead by Acting Director General Yuri Nosov visited the Presidential Library of the Republic of Belarus. There, negotiations on cooperation and the introduction to the institution’s work took place. On September 16, the Presidential Library’s delegation paid a working visit to the Russian House in Minsk.
