Memorial meeting for the heroes of Stalingrad held at the Sverdlovsk Regional Centre of the Presidential Library
On February 14, 2023, a meeting dedicated to the memory of the participant of the Great Patriotic War, Artillery Major General Alexander Fyodorovich Pavlov (1895–1975) was held at the Regional Centre of the Presidential Library based on the Belinsky Sverdlovsk Regional Universal Research Library.
The general’s grandson Konstantin Pavlov told about the biography of the veteran, his labour and combat path. The meeting also included a screening of a film made by students of Lyceum № 12 of Yekaterinburg, in which students tell about the life and military path of General Alexander F. Pavlov. Under his command, the 7th Artillery Division of the breakthrough of the reserve of the General Command (organized before the Battle of Stalingrad on November 19, 1942) was involved in Operation Little Saturn and stood at its turn, repelling the fierce attacks of the tank forces of Nazi Germany.
The meeting was also attended by students of the Forestry College, who explored the book and magazine exposition of the Sverdlovsk Regional Centre of the Presidential Library Stalingrad Cauldron. The exposition displays materials from the Presidential Library’s collections: the documentary Next Target – Stalingrad: the Story of a Military Historian, and visual materials – a postcard depicting a monument-ensemble to the heroes of the Battle of Stalingrad (Volgograd, Mamayev Kurgan), a poster calling for an offensive.
The collection Sverdlovsk Region: Pages of History is also available on the Presidential Library’s portal. It contains statistical materials, research studies, essays and photographs of the 19th – early 20th century, and reveals geographical, demographic, socio-economic and socio-political aspects of the history of the region.
