Video films about the history of Russia available online

The Presidential Library’s portal broadcasts films and video lectures prepared by the library as well as video films by leading domestic film and TV studios in the TV channel section. Their display is timed to memorable and significant dates as well as major events in the Presidential Library. Here are the most striking film screenings available from July 24-31.

On August 1, 1914, Russia entered the First World War. A number of video lectures are timed to coincide with this date on the library’s portal. One of them - "The Russian state in the First World War" – focuses on the impact of the First World War on the history of the Russian Empire, as one of the participants in this global armed conflict. In particular, this is about the fact that in many respects the war of 1914-1918 paved the way for the revolution of 1917 and the social cataclysms that followed it.

At the video lecture “Patriotic Moods in Russian Society during the First World War”, one can find out how the theme of patriotism and nationalism was comprehended during the war by famous Russian philosophers, historians, and political figures of that time.

On this day, the video film “The War Chamber” will also be broadcast, thanks to which it will be possible to visit Tsarskoye Selo, the Museum of the First World War, which displays a rich collection of uniforms, equipment, awards, a gallery of portraits of St. George Knights and other testimonies.

Portal users will learn about the collection of the Presidential Library dedicated to the First World War. The collection allows looking at the events of those years from different angles, as it includes copies of library books, archival documents, and museum items, many of which have until now been available only to specialists and have never been publicly available.  

On the same day, August 1, the 96th anniversary of the formation of Leningrad Region is celebrated. The films made by the Presidential Library in cooperation with the Staraya Ladoga Historical, Architectural and Archaeological Museum-Reserve will tell about the salvation of the ancient frescoes of the churches of Staraya Ladoga, the first capital of Rus'.

On the 27th anniversary of the establishment of the official symbols of presidential power in the Russian Federation, on August 5, a documentary film will be shown on the Presidential Library’s portal telling about the history of the Standard (Flag) of the President of the Russian Federation and the Sign of the President of the Russian Federation, about a special copy of the Constitution of the Russian Federation , the procedure for the inauguration of the President, as well as the creation of the State Heraldic Service. Georgy Vilinbakhov, Chief King of Arms of Russia, Chairman of the Heraldic Council under the President of Russia, was one of the film's experts.

In turn, the documentary trilogy "State Symbols of Russia" is dedicated to the history of the creation and development of the state symbols of the country. The first part of the film "The Coat of Arms of Russia" introduces the history of the formation of the heraldic sign from Ancient Rus' to modern Russia, the second part "Flag of Russia" tells about the formation of state flags from the 13th to the 20th century, the third part "The Anthem of Russia" tells about the three-hundred-year history of the tradition performances of hymns.

Gleb Kalashnikov, executive secretary of the Heraldic Council under the President of the Russian Federation, will talk about Russian state heraldry in the modern world in his video lecture.

The film “The State Residence of the President of Russia. The Grand Kremlin Palace”, filmed as part of the “Presidential Chronicle” project, introduces a unique monument of architecture and history of Russia. The palace complex was created over the course of several centuries, with its construction the ensemble of the Moscow Kremlin was finally formed. The Grand Imperial Palace, today known as the Grand Kremlin Palace, served as the main Moscow imperial residence. Currently, this is the main residence of the head of state, where the inauguration ceremonies of the President of the Russian Federation, the presentation of state awards, important negotiations, meetings, conferences and celebrations are held.

In addition, thanks to the "Presidential Chronicle" project, it will be possible to visit the personal library of the head of state - the Library of the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation.

On August 7, on the day of the 220th anniversary of the start of the first Russian round-the-world expedition, a webinar dedicated to the journey of Ivan Krusenstern and Yuri Lisyansky, the geographical research of Russian discoverers, as well as the history of the formation of interstate relations between Russia and other countries in the XVIII-XIX centuries.
