28 November 2023

On November 29, 2023, the first stage of the Presidential Library Olympiad for schoolchildren and students “Russia in the Electronic World” comes to an end. The contest is held by the Presidential Library and the National Research University Higher School of Economics in individual subjects - history, social studies and the Russian language. Pupils of 10–11th grades, as well as students studying in institutions of secondary vocational education in programs in the field of arts, from Russia and foreign countries are invited to participate.

During the Olympiad, children can try their hand at each of the disciplines or choose only the subject in which they understand best. The results will be summed up based on the results of the individual contest. Winners and runners-up are awarded diplomas. The best participants will also receive additional points for admission to a number of universities, a list of which is being compiled and will soon be available on the Olympiad's portal.

The contest includes three mandatory stages. The first and second are held remotely from September 20 to November 29, 2023 and from December 20, 2023 to January 18, 2024, respectively. The final stage will take place in person from March 12 to March 14, 2024. Participants in the third round can also be the winners and prize-awardees of the Olympiad “Russia in the Electronic World” of the previous year, who continue their studies in organizations that carry out educational activities in educational programs of basic and secondary general education, in the form of family education or self-education, mastering the specified educational programs abroad, as well as those mastering educational programs of secondary vocational education in the field of arts. Finalists from St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region will meet at Senate Square, 3, and guys from other regions will meet at the sites of remote electronic reading rooms of the Presidential Library.

The Olympiad tasks are based, among other things, on the materials from the electronic collections of the Presidential Library. Therefore, studying the library resources on the official portal can help participants answer the competition questions as completely and accurately as possible. The children will also be able to practice in advance based on assignments from previous years posted on the project website in the Archive section.

The main objective of the contest is to introduce students to dealing with archival sources of information on the history, theory and practice of Russian statehood. The electronic collection of the Presidential Library contains more than a million digitized copies of rare documents that constitute the cultural heritage of our country. The Olympiad is aimed at finding and supporting young talents and popularizing humanitarian knowledge among young people.
