Historical dictation “Leningrad Victory” based on the Presidential Library’s materials
On November 22, 2023, the historical dictation “Leningrad Victory” was held at the “Road of Life” museum in the Vsevolozhsk district of Leningrad Region. The event took place on the day the Road of Life ice track began operating, marking the year of the 80th anniversary of the breaking of the siege of Leningrad and on the eve of the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi siege, which will be celebrated on January 27, 2024.
The text of the dictation, dedicated to these and other memorable dates of the Great Patriotic War associated with Leningrad Region, was based on the collections of the Presidential Library, which is a partner of the project. Today the collections contain more than a million documents and materials on the history of Russia.

Director General of the Presidential Library Yuri Nosov emphasized: “The library’s s are in demand by society. This is evidenced by the fact that Internet links (QR-codes) to the information resources of the Presidential Library were included in common history textbooks for senior pupils. As a result, the Presidential Library became the only library in the country which materials were published in a textbook for the first time in history. And in one click they immediately become available to all readers”.
The Presidential Library pays much attention to preserving historical memory, countering the falsification of history, strengthening patriotism and spiritual and moral values.
A unique information resource has been opened on the library’s portal - a Collection of digitized archival documents, film and photo materials “World War II in Archival Documents”. The organizers of the project, in accordance with the List of instructions for the implementation of the Address of the President of the Russian Federation to the Federal Assembly on January 15, 2020, are Rosarkhiv, the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation and the Presidential Library.
Since 2010, the Presidential Library has been forming an electronic collection dedicated to the victory in the Great Patriotic War Memory of the Great Victory, which includes official documents, photographs and newsreels, wartime newspapers, books, propaganda publications, collections of articles, biographies, testimonies of participants in military battles and home front workers, their personal documents - memories, letters and diaries, images of military and labor awards, monuments and memorial complexes.
Activists of youth organizations and movements of Leningrad Region, Victory volunteers, and senior pupils joined the historical dictation “Leningrad Victory”. In addition, the sites for writing dictations were also organized in all districts of the region and the Sosnovoborsky urban district, where about a thousand more schoolchildren from the region joined the campaign.
The online quiz, which involves not only residents of Leningrad Region, but also the entire country, regardless of age, will be held after the dictation.
Historical dictation is not the first joint project of the Presidential Library and the Administration of Leningrad Region dedicated to the topic of the siege of Leningrad. In January 2023, participants in the “Breakthrough 80” project recorded videos for social networks with fragments of memories of residents of the besieged city from diaries, letters and other archival documents placed in the library’s collections.
