
The ninth issue of the series of scientific collected works of the Presidential Library “Electronic Archive” dedicated to the era of Peter the Great
Since 2017, the Presidential Library has been publishing a series of scientific collected works “Electronic Archive”, addressed to historians, teachers of historical disciplines, employees of archives and scientific libraries, graduate students, students, as well as anyone interested in the history of Russia.
In March 2024, the next, ninth, issue of the series was published under the title: “The Age of Peter the Great in the Research of Modern Scientists”. Its materials develop the theme of the international scientific conference “International relations of Russia in the era of Peter the Great. Marking the 350th anniversary of the birth of Russian Emperor Peter I” which took place in the Presidential Library with the active participation of the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences in November 2022.
An important place in the collection belongs to questions of the history of international relations of Russia under Peter the Great and his foreign policy: features of Peter’s diplomacy during the Northern War (Doctor of Historical Sciences E. V. Anisimov); Russian-French negotiations in 1717, covered in a letter from diplomat F. P. Veselovsky (K. N. Lemeshev); Russia in the notes of the Turkish ambassador Mehmed Agha in 1722–1723 during his trip to Moscow (researcher from Turkey B. Ziyanak); Russian diplomatic missions to Persia, China and the Ottoman Empire in the notes of their participant, Scotsman John Bell (candidate of historical sciences V. V. Yakovlev, P. V. Perlin); secret connections of Peter the Great with the Jacobite movement (Doctor of Historical Sciences D. N. Kopelev).
The articles in the collection cover such topics as the convening of the All-Joking Council of Peter I (Doctor of Historical Sciences P. E. Bukharkin); notes from foreigners about the St. Petersburg fortress (candidate of historical sciences N. R. Slavnitsky); the courtyard of the wife of Tsarevich Alexei Petrovich, Crown Princess Charlotte Christina Sofia (Candidate of Historical Sciences A. V. Morokhin); participation of the Kalmyk people in the most important events during the reign of Peter the Great (V. Z. Tserenov); legal regulation of the activities of Russian and foreign merchants at the beginning of Peter's reforms (A. A. Gulin).
A number of materials in the issue are devoted to cultural and historical topics: the change of architectural styles as a result of Northern European and Italian influence on Russian architecture (PhD A. V. Bertash); the history of the creation of the Mungalo-Russian school in Irkutsk, where for the first time in Russia they began to systematically study the Mongolian and Chinese languages (Doctor of Historical Sciences Yu.V. Kuzmin); illustrations of the conflict with Russia in the 1680s. in the Chinese atlas “Luosha” (V. I. Trukhin); description of a rare Vietnamese saber from the collection of the Moscow Kremlin Museums, presumably part of the armory collection of Peter the Great (candidate of historical sciences V. A. Vetyukov).
Electronic copies of issues of the series, like all scientific publications of the Presidential Library, are available in its electronic collections and on the library’s portal, indexed in the national information and analytical system “Russian Science Citation Index” (elibrary.ru).
The Presidential Library plans to continue to show readers the results of research in the field of Russian history.
