
The Presidential Library awarded winners and runners-up of the Olympiad "Russia in the electronic world"
On May 14, 2024, the ceremony of awarding diplomas and memorable gifts to the winners and runners-up of the Olympiad "Russia in the electronic World" took place. Participants gathered at the Presidential Library in St. Petersburg at Senate Square, 3, and at the venue of Tyumen branch of the Library. The event was attended by representatives of the National Research University Higher School of Economics.
On behalf of the Director General of the Presidential Library, Yuri Nosov, Alexey Voronovich, Deputy Director of the Department for Scientific and Educational Work, Head of the Scientific Expertise Department of the Presidential Library Foundation, read out a greeting to the participants of the event. The greeting says that "the main objectives of the project are to form the interest of the younger generation in the history of Russia and the Russian language, create conditions for supporting gifted children, identify young talents in the field of humanities and popularize humanitarian knowledge among young people. An important tool in the implementation of these tasks is to introduce children to work with archival sources on the history of Russian statehood presented on the Presidential Library's portal." The tasks of the Olympiad were developed based on the materials from the electronic library holdings, which contain more than a million digitized copies of rare documents that make up the historical and cultural heritage of our country.
Mikhail Companets, Head of the Department for Admission and Work with Applicants at the Higher School of Economics – St. Petersburg, noted: "The Olympiad, held jointly with the Presidential Library, has one very important feature: participants gain access to the most valuable information resources of the library, which undoubtedly greatly helps both in preparing for participation in the contests, as well as in the learning process of the younger generation. The St. Petersburg HSE has many years of experience in conducting Olympiads and pays great attention to identifying and supporting students who are interested in in-depth study of school subjects and who seek to go beyond general education in search of knowledge."
During the event on Senate Square, 3 the winners and runners-up from different regions of the country who came to St. Petersburg with their parents and teachers were awarded. Timofey Popov (Tyumen region) was awarded a diploma of the first degree for the best knowledge of history. In Social studies, diplomas of the first degree were awarded to Alexey Shadrin (Tyumen region) and Lada Sverba (Kaluga region). Elizaveta Kudryavtseva (Tver region) was awarded a diploma of the first degree in Russian language, and Angelina Antonova (Krasnodar Territory) and Daria Patrakova (St. Petersburg) received diplomas of the third degree. The winner of the subject "Russian as a foreign language" Resul Poladov (Turkmenistan) was also honored on Senate Square, 3.
The awarding of the winners and runners-up from Tyumen region took place via video conference. Traditionally, children from this region actively participate in the Olympiad. Thus, Zhanna Semenova was awarded a diploma of the first degree in Russian language, and Polina Korzhova and Ilya Medvedev received diplomas of the second and third degrees. Kristina Falkova was awarded a diploma of the first degree in Social studies, and Daria Kuznetsova, Stepan Kuchin, and Anastasia Petrova were awarded diplomas of the second degree. The diploma of the second degree in History was awarded to Kristina Semenova.
The remaining participants who were unable to attend the ceremony will receive their diplomas in electronic form or by mail. This year more than 3.5 thousand schoolchildren and students took part in the contest. Most of them are representatives of Tyumen, Novosibirsk, Kurgan and Kemerovo regions, Khanty–Mansi Autonomous Okrug - Yugra, Donetsk People's Republic, as well as foreign countries – Vietnam, Iran, Uzbekistan, Egypt, India, China, Turkmenistan, etc.
The Olympiad was traditionally held in the subjects of "History", "Social Studies", "Russian language" and "Russian as a foreign language". The competition included several stages. The final round was organized at 72 regional venues and 20 foreign venues based on Rossotrudnichestvo.
Since 2010, about 60,000 people have tried their skills in the interactive educational project. A lot of them later entered leading Russian universities.
The Olympiad "Russia in the Electronic World" this year was held by the Presidential Library and the National Research University Higher School of Economics with the organizational support of Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University, St. Petersburg State University of Economics and the Northwestern Institute of Management, a branch of the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation.
