Presidential Library invites readers to watch films and video lectures online

Where was Sergei Rachmaninoff born, and what did Sergei Yesenin remember about his tour of Europe and the United States with Isadora Duncan? Why was Count Alexei Arakcheev referred to as a "romantic tyrant", and what do artist Nikolai Roerich and cosmonaut Georgy Grechko have in common? These and other topics will be covered in films and video lectures available on the Presidential Library's portal, in the TV channel section, from October 1st to October 15th.

On October 1st, the video recording of a concert featuring the State Kremlin Orchestra of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation will be broadcast on International Music Day. The concert took place at the Presidential Library and featured musical works by Glier, Rimsky-Korsakov, Mussorgsky, Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Verdi, Bizet, and Rossini, among others, performed by Honored Artists of Russia and soloists from leading theaters of the country, as well as laureates of international competitions. The performances are all united by the themes of Russian statehood and the history of our country.

The brilliant pianist, composer, and conductor Sergei Rachmaninoff was born on April 1, 1873. However, there is some disagreement about his exact birthplace, with both Novgorod and Tambov region being suggested. A video lecture titled Where S.V. Was Born? by the renowned local historian Valery Demidov can help to clarify this matter. The lecture, which is available in the TV Channel section of the Presidential Library's International Music Day page, is dedicated to discussing Rachmaninov's life and work.

Video lectures dedicated to the work of the poet and its significance for world culture will be presented in conjunction with the next anniversary of the birth of Sergei Yesenin, on October 3. The lectures will also reveal little-known facts from the personal life of Sergei Yesenin, such as details of his foreign tour of Europe and the United States with Isadora Duncan.

On October 4, 255 years ago, the future statesman and Minister of War of the Russian Empire, General of Artillery Count Alexei Arakcheyev was born. The documentary film Nine Myths about the Romantic Tyrant from the series Éminence grise of Russia, part of the collection of historical documentaries on the TV channel 365 Days, reveals little-known details from his biography.

On October 7, the birthday of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, films prepared within the framework of the Presidential Chronicle project will be shown on the library's portal. The film Symbols of Presidential Power tells about the history of the creation of symbols of presidential power. Today, the symbols of presidential power are the Standard (Flag) of the President of the Russian Federation and the Sign of the President of the Russian Federation.

The film The Grand Kremlin Palace: The Ceremonial Residence of the President of Russia is dedicated to the unique monument of architecture and history in Russia. The Grand Imperial Palace, now known as the Grand Kremlin Palace, was the main imperial residence in Moscow. Today, it serves as the ceremonial residence for the head of state, hosting inauguration ceremonies for the President of the Russian Federation, presentations of state awards, and important meetings, conferences, and solemn events.

On October 8th, the anniversary of Julian Semyonov's birth, there will be a screening of two films: Julian Semenov: The Task of Goodness, which tells the story of the life and work of the famous author and screenwriter, and A Movie Novel with History: Russia of the 20th Century through the Eyes of Julian Semyonov, about an exhibition held at the Presidential Library.

210 years ago, on October 15, 1814, Mikhail Lermontov was born. Thanks to the video lectures presented as part of the educational project of the Presidential Library, Video Lecture Knowledge of Russia, users will be able to learn about recent research on the life and works of the writer and reflect on the human character in the novel Hero of Our Time.

The series of video tutorials titled Russia in World War II is continuing its premiere screening in the educational block of TV Channel on the Presidential Library website until October 9, 2021. One lesson from this series is broadcast daily at 10:00 on weekdays. A total of 28 lessons have been created. The scientific director of this project is Anatoly Torkunov, an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The idea for this project was conceived by Yuri Nosov, the Director General of the Presidential Library, and Ilya Demakov, the Director of the Gorchakov Lyceum of MGIMO.

This series is designed for in-depth historical studies and exam preparation. Each lesson comes with QR codes that lead to primary sources from the unique World War II in Archival Documents information resource, which is a joint project between the Presidential Library and the Federal Archival Agency.

Video lectures are available on the library's website, covering topics that support and expand on the school curriculum. One such lecture, Knowledge of Russia, reflects the main focus of the Presidential Library's collection: the history of the Russian state and legal system, as well as Russian as the official language of the Russian Federation. Experts from reputable scientific and educational institutions in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and other Russian cities regularly deliver lectures to the public.

Films and videos prepared by the Presidential Library, along with videos from leading domestic film and TV studios, are available around the clock on the Presidential Library website in the TV Channel section. In this section, viewers can also find the schedule for upcoming broadcasts.
