Chelyabinsk Regional Center of Presidential Library prepared new patriotic project for 80th anniversary of Great Victory
The Regional Center of the Presidential Library, based on the Chelyabinsk Regional Universal Scientific Library, has launched a new project called Little Heroes of the Great War to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. This project is aimed at students in grades 7 and 8 and is part of a larger patriotic initiative.
As a part of this project, the students attended a video lecture about the lives and deeds of the pioneers who were heroes during the Great Patriotic War. They learned about the stories of their fellow students who, alongside their fathers and older siblings, defended their country during difficult times. The students also learned that many of these young heroes were awarded with orders and medals for their bravery, and six of them - Lenya Golikov, Marat Kazey, Valya Kotik, Zina Portnova, Borya Tsarikov, and Alexander Chekalin - were even awarded the highest honor of the time - the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
Galina Epanikhina, the head of the Chelyabinsk Regional Center of the Presidential Library, demonstrated Boris Savinov's book, The Triumph and Tragedy of the Kazey Family. The publication features rare photographic documents from the archives of the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War.
The book tells the story of a unique Belarusian family where children were raised with qualities that enabled them to perform feats of arms during wartime and work during peacetime. School children were impressed by the story of Kazey's sister and brother, who were awarded titles of Hero of the Soviet Union and Hero of Socialist Labor.
On the portal of the Presidential Library, there is a collection of digitized archival documents, films, and photographic materials titled World War II in Archival Documents. This collection contains sources that reflect the prelude, course, and aftermath of the Second World War, and it currently includes nearly 14,000 materials, including maps, diagrams, periodicals, photographs, and newsreels from January 1933 to December 1944.
