Murmansk Regional Center of Presidential Library joined regional patriotic action marking Day of Heroes of Fatherland
From December 3 to 10, 2024, the Murmansk Regional Universal Scientific Library, which houses the Regional Center of the Presidential Library, hosted the patriotic event Week of Heroes: The Pride of the Motherland. This event was timed to coincide with the Day of Heroes of the Fatherland.
During this event, a number of themed events were organized to inform the younger generation about the history and tradition of this memorable date, as well as about the defenders of our country - from the great Russian generals of the past to the heroes of today's special military operation.
For example, the Murmansk Regional Center of the Presidential Library hosted a quiz called Learn from Heroes. The quiz consisted of six rounds covering various periods of Russian history, including the Great Patriotic War and modern times. The questions focused on the exploits of heroes during the war and notable figures from the past and present. Participants were challenged to immerse themselves in history by recalling significant dates and events and naming the names of those who embodied indomitable strength and courage. This was not just a test of knowledge but a journey through the world of heroism.
In addition to the quiz, participants were also introduced to the resources of the Presidential Library, particularly the collection titled Russian People, which includes the section Protection of the Fatherland. This section presents materials that showcase various aspects of people's involvement in protecting their country's integrity and sovereignty.
Another event of the campaign was a meaningful dialogue called Heroes of Russia Today. It was attended by students from regional colleges. During the meeting, participants were presented with emotional video clips from the Presidential Library's collection, showcasing the incredible actions of people who choose to save others in difficult situations.
As part of the campaign, a meeting with a participant in the special military operation also was held. The main guest of the meeting was soldier from the Narwhal Special Forces unit. He shared his experiences of how the military prepares for missions, the qualities a modern special forces soldier needs to possess, the challenges and trials that must be overcome on the path to victory, and the importance of military brotherhood.
The lecture It's No Longer a Secret attracted the attention of many visitors to the library. Alexander Chemersky, retired Lieutenant Colonel and Deputy Chairman of the Council of Veterans of the Federal Security Service for the Murmansk Region, presented declassified documents from the archives of the Federal Security Service in Murmansk on the work of the NKVD in the Kola North during the Great Patriotic War to the audience.
During the campaign, themed intellectual games, quizzes, and exhibitions were held. According to organizers, more than 300 people participated in the series of events. The most active participants included students from Murmansk Industrial College, Murmansk Construction College, Murmansk College of Economics and Information Technology, Murmansk Pedagogical College, Murmansk Medical College, schools No. 28 and 43 in Murmansk, gymnasiums No. 8 and 5, and pupils from the regional Center for military sports training and patriotic education for youth.
The Presidential Library's portal features a collection titled Murmansk Region: Pages of History. This collection includes research, statistics, archival documents, images, and videos that reflect various aspects of the region's development throughout history.
