
Presidential Library's video lecture told about ostyaks and voguls
On December 23rd, 2024 the Presidential Library hosted an event dedicated to the Khanty and Mansi people as part of the Knowledge of Russia video lecture series.
Maria Meshalkina, an art historian, ethnographer, and expert on rock art at the Presidential Library, spoke about the indigenous peoples of the Urals and Western Siberia - the Ostyaks (Khanty) and Voguls (Mansi). The Khanty and Mansi are a small indigenous group living in the North, mostly in the traditional way of life in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug - Yugra.
During the lecture, their culture and that of their ancestors was discussed, based on archaeological findings, ethnographic materials, and expedition reports.

The Presidential Library's portal presents the online project Centuries-Old Yugra, which is dedicated to the exhibition of the same name that is currently on display in the halls of the Presidential Library.
