Photo exhibition Frontline Flowers opened in Presidential Library

On December 25th, 2024  Presidential Library hosted the grand opening of the multimedia exhibition Frontline Flowers.

Visitors to the exhibition on the ground floor will be able to see the works of Denis Shershitsky, a photographer and a resident of St. Petersburg who participated in a special military operation and died in the line of duty. The curator of the photo project is the author's wife Jeannette Shershitskaya.

Yuri Nosov, the General Director of the Presidential Library, said: "We are very pleased that the exhibition is being held at the Presidential Library. We attach great importance to preserving historical truth and providing historical education. The electronic collection of the Presidential Library contains a wealth of materials and documents related to military history and the reunification of the territories of Russia."

The opening ceremony was attended by Anatoly Annenkov, an artist and member of the Union of Artists of Russia; Anatoly Kontashov, Chairman of the Regional Association of Veterans of Military Counterintelligence in the Leningrad Military District; Valery Krylov, Director of the Military Historical Museum of Artillery, Engineering, and Communications Troops; members of the St. Petersburg branch of the Russian Military Historical Society; and other distinguished guests.

During the event, Temnaya Noch' a song performed by Ninel Grigoryeva and Alexander Vaska from the Humanitarian Volunteer Corps in the Northern Capital, was presented.

His photographs, taken in the frontline zone, reflect the beauty of Zaporozhye, including flowers, birds and fields. Denis believed that these images could help to bring people together and dreamed of organizing an exhibition in St. Petersburg to share them with everyone.

In addition to his own works, the exhibition also includes photographs from the author's personal archive.

Denis Shershitsky was born on December 26, 1981, in Astrakhan, Russia. He graduated from Volgograd State Technical University and received the rank of lieutenant after completing his military training. His specialty was "commander of motorized rifle platoons."

On September 21, 2022, Denis became one of the first people to report to the military enlistment center after the announcement of mobilization. As a platoon commander, he served in Donetsk, Marinka, and Zaporozhye, among other locations.

Unfortunately, Denis passed away on June 8, 2023. The President of Russia posthumously awarded him the Order of Courage for his bravery and dedication to his country.

On December 25th, 2024, the Presidential Library also opened an exhibition titled Book Monuments of the Presidential Library: Russia Through the Eyes of Travelers, which will showcase rare editions from the 16th to 20th centuries.
