Penza Regional Center of Presidential Library held multimedia lesson for schoolchildren "Leapfrog of Chekhov's images"
On January 23, 2025, specialists from the Regional Center of the Presidential Library, based at the Lermontov Penza Regional Library, held the first multimedia lesson of the Great Russia series for high school students from V.V. Tarasov School № 12. The lesson was dedicated to the 165th anniversary of Anton Chekhov.
During the lesson, they talked with the students about Chekhov's works and characters. Information about Anton Pavlovich's childhood, student years, first literary experiences and collaboration with periodicals, family and environment was presented, as well as the reasons why he chose the medical field and went to Sakhalin were explained.
They also discussed the early play that later became Uncle Vanya and the reasons for Chekhov's quarrel with his friend, artist I. Levitan. Many interesting biographical details were presented during the multimedia lesson.
The presentation included a demonstration of photographs, portraits, and postcards, all of which were prepared using materials from the Presidential Library collection. The presentation is based on A. A. Izmailov's book Chekhov: A Biographical Sketch (1916), and a set of postcards titled On Chekhov's Places was also displayed. These items are available on the Presidential Library's portal.
High school students also saw several literary publications from the early 20th century, including rare collections from the Lermontov Penza Regional Library, as well as one of sixteen volumes of A. Marx Publishing House's collected works by Chekhov.
Afterwards, the students visited the electronic reading room and completed a web quest called Chekhov: The Prose Poet. Participants who completed the task first received appropriate certificates.
It should be noted that the events held within the framework of the Great Russia: Events and Persons cycle, organized by the Lermontov Penza Regional Library, focus on writers, scientists, statesmen, and military figures as well as significant and anniversary dates in Russian history.
The Penza Region: Pages of History collection is available on the Presidential Library's portal. It features archival documents, articles, research papers, statistics, and other materials that cover various aspects of the region's development throughout different historical periods.
