The event was dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and is held as part of the Year of Defender of the Fatherland, announced by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. The theme of the conference-webinar is The Great Pushkin – The Great Victory!
The main purpose of the conference-webinar was historical education, assistance in preserving national memory, the formation of traditional Russian spiritual and moral values and literary interest in documents, objects of cultural heritage of the Russian Federation, simultaneously associated with the heroism of soldiers and the name of the great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin.
Yuri Nosov, Director General of the Presidential Library, and Olga Korneva, Director of the All-Russian Pushkin Museum, addressed the participants of the event with welcoming words. Sergey Nekrasov, President of the All-Russian Pushkin Museum, also spoke.
The work of A. S. Pushkin and the victory of 1945 are connected in many ways. This is evident from numerous historical, documentary, and literary sources.
During the Great Patriotic War, works by the Russian poet A. S. Pushkin were published in large numbers and sounded on the front lines and in the back. It was during these war years that the significance of Pushkin as a national treasure and cultural symbol of the Russian people became clear. The German invaders understood the importance of Pushkin well, and during their retreat in 1944 they mined the poet's grave with remarkable ingenuity, causing the death of nine experienced Red Army engineers while clearing the mines.
Today, prominent Russian scholars will present historical research on Pushkin's ancestors and descendants, many of whom were defenders of their country and heroes of various wars. The event aims to showcase the military, historical, and everyday connections associated with the poet and his family, as well as introduce soldiers to folk tales, and provide information about tanks and planes named after A. S. Pushkin that have taken part in battles.
The participants of the conference-webinar learned about how the poet's name was widely heard during the Great Patriotic War, how family heirlooms were preserved and how Pushkin Memorial Days were held in Moscow and Leningrad. They will also learn about how the theme of war is reflected in Pushkin's works.
At 13:00, the Penza Regional Center of the Presidential Library will launch a web quest called Pushkin: Familiar and Unfamiliar. This web quest is open to everyone, regardless of their age or place of residence. For two weeks, participants will be able to test their knowledge of the poet's life and works on a special platform. On February 25, the name of the web quest winner will be announced.
The recording of the webinar is available on the Rutube-channel of the Library.
