
Series of educational events dedicated to Defender of Fatherland Day held in Murmansk
From February 18th to 22nd, 2025, the Murmansk State Regional Universal Scientific Library, where the Regional Center of the Presidential Library is based, hosted a series of events as part of the educational program Serve Russia! dedicated to Defender of the Fatherland Day.
The events included lectures about the history and traditions of this holiday, as well as an intellectual quiz where participants had the opportunity to answer questions.
The thematic materials from the Presidential Library were presented, including the documentary T-34 and other films from the Technologies of Victory cycle, which tell about various weapons that were essential to the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany. Additionally, there was a screening of film clips about the iconic Soviet BM-13 rocket artillery vehicle Katyusha and its role in the war, as well as about the snipers and their weapons, and the Soviet PPSh submachine gun, which became a symbol of victory.
During the interactive conversation The Land of Heroes, we talked about the heroes of the past and present - Soviet pilots and polar explorers, brave participants in the Great Patriotic War and the Special Military Operation, who were awarded for their courage and valor. A quiz called Courage Can Never Be Forgotten was held. The film Our Heroes showed the service, victories, and events on the front lines of the SMO (Special Military Operation).
At a lecture delivered by Vyacheslav Gazizov, assistant at the History Department of Murmansk Arctic University, small arms from the Great Patriotic War were discussed. He spoke about the Mosin rifle, Shpagin submachine gun, Degtyarev light machine gun, Tokarev TT pistol, and others.
Elena Gaidukova, chief economist of the Economic Department of the Murmansk Region branch of the Bank of Russia, also organized intellectual games for young people. In addition, the Weapons of Victory quiz, Songs of the Great War intellectual game, and Loyalty to Duty exhibition of publications on the history of the Russian army were prepared for participants.
Dog trainers from the Russian National Guard unit in Murmansk were also guests of the library. During the Four-Legged Companions: Dogs in Service meeting, they discussed training, education, and training of dogs.
A new scientific and educational project Defense of the Fatherland: at the Front and in the Rear is available on the Presidential Library's portal. It is timed to coincide with the Year of Defender of the Fatherland, announced in 2025 by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. The aim of the project is to preserve and actualize national memory, foster feelings of patriotism, belonging and respect for the military history of Russia. The initiative presents digital collections and recordings of video lectures on military-historical topics, virtual tours of thematic exhibitions, biographical materials about famous military leaders and inventors of weapons, etc. The project pays special attention to the activities of the Russian Military Historical Society. The materials included in the electronic resource reveal the history of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, tell about the creation of the military-industrial complex of our country, about armed conflicts and wars in which Russia participated, about the defense of the Fatherland by professional military and ordinary citizens on the battlefields and in the rear.
