Penza summed up results of regional online Olympiad "Know and Remember" dedicated to 80th anniversary of Victory in Great Patriotic War

On May 7, 2025 in the results of the online Olympiad "Know and Remember" dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War were summed up in the Regional Centre of the Presidential Library based on the M.Y. Lermontov Penza Regional Library. More than 1400 participants took part in the Olympiad.

The Olympiad was held to remind about the significance of the Victory, to improve historical literacy and to stimulate interest in the history of the Great Patriotic War among the residents of Penza Oblast.

The questions were prepared by the staff of the Regional Centre of the Presidential Library using documents from the collection of the Presidential Library and Penza Electronic Library. Most of the questions related to the history of the native land during the Great Patriotic War.

The text of each question contained a reference to a book, photograph or periodical. The participants were particularly interested in archival documents. For example, in the Decree of the USSR GKO № 995 cc on material and technical support of the aircraft and engine programme of the People's Commissariat of Aviation Industry for December 1941 it was necessary to find information about what was ordered to supply Penza plant № 50.

At the ceremony of awarding the winners of the online Olympiad, the candidate of historical sciences, scientific secretary of the Lermontov Penza regional library spoke. The winners were awarded diplomas and books about the Great Patriotic War: memoirs of military leaders, works of fiction dedicated to the theme of military childhood, and local history publications.

In the age category from 12 to 18 years Alexey Kuvshinov (MBOU SOSH No. 32, Penza) took the first place, Denis Grabov (MAOU PO Gymnasium No. 216 "Didact", Zarechny) took the 2nd place, Ulyana Naumova and Timofey Manoshin from school No. 36, Penza shared the 3rd place.

In the age category from 19 years and older: 1st place was won by Natalia Ponomareva, 2nd place went to Vladimir Emanov, and 3rd place - Svetlana Dmitrieva.

Another pleasant surprise awaited the winners - a visit to the exposition "War. Victory. Memory" and street tablet exhibition "Stalin's Banner. Moments of War in the Book Memory".

On the portal of the Presidential Library the collection Memory of the Great Victory is available. It includes official documents, photo and newsreels, wartime newspapers, books, propaganda publications, collections of articles, biographies, testimonies of participants of military battles and home front workers, their personal documents, images of military and labour awards, monuments and memorial complexes.
