
Resources of Presidential Library presented at Day of Periodicals in Murmansk
On May 14, 2025, the Murmansk State Regional Universal Scientific Library, where the Regional Center of the Presidential Library operates, hosted the Day of periodicals "Press Approach: we read newspapers and magazines." About 300 visitors became its participants.
A review "In sight – magazines and newspapers" was conducted for the guests of the event. He introduced the variety of issues, topics, purpose, and history of the creation of periodicals from the collections of the Murmansk State Regional Universal Scientific Library.
During the event, it was noted that the Presidential Library presents periodicals of various subjects: legal, socio-political, literary, geographical, local history and others. The audience was shown the collection Russian periodicals in the Presidential Library Collections.
A virtual Electronic Pencil game dedicated to newspapers and magazines was held for the visitors, and the guests were introduced to full-text electronic periodicals from the collections of the Murmansk State Regional Universal Scientific Library.
The participants of the review "Murman Periodicals: Past and Present" learned about the printed periodicals of the Kola North at the beginning of the 20th century and about modern versions in the Kola North electronic library.
Fans of team competitions enjoyed the educational game "Sensation Hunting". Her questions were related to interesting facts from the history of print media, as well as interesting information published in them.
As part of the educational event "The song also fought: the music of the Great Patriotic War on the pages of magazines", participants had the opportunity to read about the front-line brigades of artists and famous performers of those years, listen to records and CDs with recordings. The audience was told about the development of songwriting, including guerrilla art, and introduced to the works composed during that period.
During the tour "A look through the centuries: Russian periodicals of the XIX – early XX centuries", the participants learned about the oldest magazines and newspapers from the collections of the Murmansk State Regional Universal Scientific Library. These are the magazines Russian Bulletin (1808-1811) and Library for Reading (1834-1835), which have preserved the bindings and paperbacks of the 19th century; the Niva magazine of the early 20th century with numerous illustrations and fascinating advertisements; magazines from 1914, which resemble printed newspapers in format; newspapers dating back to 1917.
Exhibitions of periodicals "News of the World for a day, a week, a month" and "Around Retro" were also open throughout the day. In addition, a master class "Collage of Time" was held for the participants of the event.
The collection Murmansk Region: Pages of History is available on the Presidential Library's portal. It includes research, statistical materials, archival documents, visual and video materials reflecting various aspects of the region's development in different historical periods.
