Civic dialogue launched at the Presidential library

On September 21 2010 the Presidential library brought together the companions in arms of the President of Russia Boris N. Yeltsin, state and public figures of his epoch, and the contemporary youth. They all became the participants of the Civic dialogue “Boris Yeltsin – new Russia – peace”. The event launched the educational and information program timed to 80th anniversary of Boris N. Yeltsin.

The key aim of the event was to lay the foundations of the constructive dialogue between the contemporary generation of 20-years-olds and colleagues and companions in arms of Boris N. Yeltsin. The civic dialogue was opened by the discussion “Russia at the turn of centuries: experience of 1990-1993 for reaching the goals of the country’s modernization. Modern youth as the main subject of modernization”. During the discussion representatives of the older generation kept on returning to the events of the bygone days.

As a result of the live communication participants outlined the 2010-2011 educational and information program, approved conditions of the contest of research works by students and graduates. Within the framework of the event Boris Minayev presented his book entitled “Yeltsin”, which has been recently published in the “Life of Remarkable People” series.

S.S. Shushkevich, deputies of the Supreme Soviet and the State Duma of the Russian Federation, deputies of Lensovet (Leningrad City Council of People’s Deputies) and Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg, judges of the RF Constitutional Court, politicians, economists, journalists – participants of the events of the beginning of ’90s attended the event. The People’s Artist of USSR Oleg V. Basilashvilli and Yu. Ye. Samarin – companion in arms of Boris N. Yeltsin in Yekaterinburg, joined the discussion via teleconference.

The event was timed to the International Day of Peace. United Nations General Assembly proclaimed the day of September 21 as the day of non-violence and ceasefire worldwide.
