“Foreign View” has attracted a record number of contestants
In 2012 the III International Photo Contest of the Presidential Library, “Foreign View” has the greatest in three years number of participants. The deadline for the submission of works for the contest was October 9, 2012. In total, over 2 000 photos have been sent, which is two times more than in the past two years.
Great attention to the photo contest proves that the “Foreign View” has become a major cultural event, and its democracy, the opportunity to present their works both for professionals and amateurs, has attracted a variety of contestants. Within three years of the contest, the organizing committee had received photos from more than 30 countries of the world.
This year motto of the contest is "The State Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow." The selection is made among the photos taken by foreigners in Russia, and those taken by Russians abroad. According to the tradition, part of the photographs will be added to the electronic collections of the Presidential Library. It includes over 190,000 materials, half of which represent historical archival documents, including photos of different periods.
A special place in the contest is given to the nomination "Germany through the eyes of the Russians, Russia through the eyes of the Germans." It is timed to the cross culture Year of Germany in Russia and Russia in Germany. Prize winners will be awarded by the representatives of the Federal Republic of Germany, and this event will be the prelude to the Presidential Library’s joining of the forum "Petersburg Dialogue". Before its launch in St. Petersburg, the Presidential Library will host a conference, "The natives of Germany and their Russian descendants."
