The Presidential Library told about plans for the future at the All-Russian Library Congress

The Presidential Library will put into operation in 2017 a new Internet portal, which will expand the list and quality of services provided to users. This was announced today, May 17, 2017, at a special event within the framework of the All-Russian Library Congress: the XXII Annual Conference of the Russian Library Association "The Issues of Forming an Electronic Environment for Interregional Cooperation of Libraries". During the space bridge mode with the Siberian Federal University, the specialists of the Presidential Library told about the information, cultural, educational and scientific-educational directions of the institution.

The issues concerning the formation of archives of network documents were considered. This is a new topic for Russia, but it is not new for world library institutions. The professional community associates the urgency of the task of including in the digital funds of network resources with the need to preserve the digital cultural heritage. This activity will prevent the irretrievable disappearance of network resources; it will ensure the preservation and the possibility of studying the history of the development of the digital heritage and so on.

Currently, the Presidential Library plans to implement projects that will allow in practice to work out the entire process of staffing the fund with network documents.

As part of the discussion with colleagues from Krasnoyarsk, the specialists of the Presidential Library announced several significant projects that will be implemented in the near future. They include the VIII International Photo Contest of the Presidential Library "Foreign View", which starts in July 2017 aimed at the formation and preservation of the photographic heritage of Russia. In 2016, the contest brought together a record number of works - about 5 thousand images. Traditionally, the participants - amateurs and professionals - send photos to the contest taking into account the approved nominations. The works are accepted by foreigners in Russia, as well as photographs of Russians made abroad. Over the whole history of the contest, more than 19 thousand works were received.

During the event, the participants of the space bridge heard speeches about the publishing projects of the Presidential Library, the activities of the institution abroad, the receipt of a compulsory copy of electronic publications in the library and etc. The report on securing and granting access to the regional resources of the Presidential Library was of particular interest. It was noted that to date 56 agreements have been signed with the subjects of the Russian Federation, in all 85 regions of Russia, centers for remote access to the resources of the Presidential Library have been opened. For the period of operation of the institution established in 2009, more than 88,000 documents and materials were received from regional partners in the electronic form.

The All-Russian Library Congress: the XXII Annual Conference of the Russian Library Association is held from 14 to 19 May 2017 in Krasnoyarsk. Theme of the Congress of 2017: "The Role of Libraries in the Cultural Policy of Russia". The Presidential Library has been a member of the Russian Library Association since 2009. Every year the library specialists take an active part in the work of the sections and RBA round tables.
