The book exhibition “Man in the Arctic” in the I. S. Nikitin Voronezh Regional Universal Scientific Library

The I. S. Nikitin Voronezh Regional Universal Scientific Library hosts the exhibition "Man in the Arctic".

The exhibition presents several publications about the indigenous inhabitants of the Arctic. These are the books "The Arctic is my home", "Yakut Sakha", "Studies on the culture of the Nenets", "Indians of Alaska", "Hunters of the American North".

The books devoted to the first Arctic travelers, both Russian and foreign, are widely represented in the exposition. This is the work of Gwin Jones "Normans" about the conquerors of the North Atlantic, books about the Russian navigator Semyon Dezhnev, about the Dutch seafarer of the XVI century Willem Barents, about the Russian merchant and explorer Grigory Shelekhov. This topic is also devoted to the work of A. A. Sopotsky "The History of V. Bering's Voyage on the Boat "St. Gabriel to the Arctic Ocean".

In the XX century, the names of George Sedov, Vladimir Rusanov, Otto Schmidt, Fridtjof Nansen are forever inscribed in the history of the development of the Arctic. Books about these wonderful people are also represented at the exhibition.

The topic of the so-called "Russian America" ​​is of great interest in society. Books on this subject can also be found at the exhibition.

For the Soviet Union, the development of the Arctic was a strategic task. Rich material about its solution is in the books of I. D. Papanin "Ice and Fire", G. F. Baidukov "First flights across the Arctic Ocean", "Atomic icebreaker "Lenin", "Stalin: the Arctic Shield".

The role of economic development of the Arctic in ensuring national security and modernization of Russia is covered in the publications "The Russian Arctic: a Modern Development Paradigm". "The Arctic: Russia's Interests and the International Conditions for their Realization" and "The Arctic: A View from Moscow".

On the website of the Presidential Library the Voronezh Region is represented by the collection "The Voronezh region: Pages of History", which presents studies, essays, archival documents, statistical and other materials covering geographic, demographic, socioeconomic, socio-political and other aspects of the history of the Voronezh region the period of the XVII-XIX centuries.
