On the card is a reproduction of the portrait of Alexander Pushkin. The painting was made by artist Vasily Tropinin in 1827. The original portrait is in the All-Russian Museum of Alexander Pushkin (Museum-apartment on the Moika). The postcard was published in favor of the "Committee for the equipping of expeditions to the North Pole and the study of the Russian Polar countries." From the Highest Assignment, the approved committee set out to collect funds for equipment of polar expeditions, as well as rescue expeditions to search for the missing explorers of the North. The committee was organized on the initiative of the traveler and researcher G. Ya. Sedov in 1912. Means Committee for equipping expeditions received from the organization of public lectures and sales of popular brochures, as well as from private patrons. The Committee did not receive official funding, but enjoyed the personal support of the emperor .
