The Assumption Cathedral is the main monastery church of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, built in 1073-1078. under Prince Svyatoslav Yaroslavovich ancient Russian architects. Richness and splendor of decoration, he "was like heaven". During the invasions of the XIII-XIV centuries. The temple was repeatedly destroyed, but it was rebuilt again. Large restoration work was carried out in 1723-1729. after the devastating fire of 1718, the Assumption Cathedral acquired the features of Ukrainian baroque. In November 1941 the temple was blown up, in 2000 it was recreated in the forms of the XVIII century.
