
The life and accomplishments of P. A. Stolypin in digital collection of the Presidential Library
April 14 (April 3 in the Julian calendar), 2017 marks the 155 years anniversary of the birth of Pyotr Arkadyevich Stolypin, an outstanding statesman of the Russian Empire, whose name is associated with the most essential domestic reforms in the socio-political and socio-economic spheres of the early 20th century. There is an extensive electronic collection dedicated to Stolypin on the Presidential Library website. It, in particular, includes digital copies of various documentary materials: a correspondence, the texts of speaking appearances, as well as the essays and the studies. The latter include such rare editions as A brochure with the biography of P. A. Stolypin of 1911 and P. A. Stolypin: an essay on the life and activity of 1912; public video lectures entitled The life and activity of Pyotr Arkadyevich Stolypin and his epoch and The accomplishments of Pyotr Arkadyevich Stolypin as chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Russian Empire.
Apart to Stolypin's state activities, the electronic collection of the Presidential Library also included the materials related to his private life. So, there are the digital copies of some documents in that selection: The berth certificate - an extract from the metric book of the Dresden Orthodox Church about the birth of P. A. Stolypin on April 2, 1862, Academic transcript of the university-preparatory school students of the city of Orel, where P. A. Stolypin is one of the students, High school diploma issued to P. A. Of great interest are materials from Pyotr Arkadyevich's private archive – hand written Notes of P. A. Stolypin of 1907, A notebook of P. A. Stolypin for recording his individual expenses of 1895, and Stolypin’s P. A. letters of to his wife Stolypina O. B.: 1904.
Digital copies of selected documents related to the wife of a great statesman, as well as to his family members (daughters, father, brother, mother-in-law and others) are included in a separate Genealogy.
Besides from the documents, to find out more about how and as whom the Russian reformer served and about his everyday life is also possible from the photographic sources presented in Illustrations. Pyotr Arkadyevich Stolypin died on September 5 (18), 1911, in Kiev as a result of an assassination attempt, before that happened, during just six years, he was assassination attempted ten times. Dmitry Bogrov inflicted a deadly wound, twice shooting at point-blank range at head of government during the performance at the Kyiv Opera House.
