Unique photos taken by heroic defenders of Leningrad during the defense of the city, and the outbreak of the blockade, are first presented to its readers and visitors by the Military Historical Library of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, located at the headquarters of the Western Military District at the Palace Square in St. Petersburg.

On September 8, 1941, a Siege ring was set around Leningrad. The Siege lasted until January 18, 1943, when the troops of the Leningrad and Volkhov fronts met near the southern shore of Lake Ladoga. A year later, on January 27, 1944, the Siege was finally lifted.

July 5, at the Pushkin Reserve opened the exhibition "Bread of the besieged city". The exhibition presents 19 posters with photographs and documents telling about the life of the beleaguered by troops of Nazi Germany Leningrad, sending food to the city and its distribution among the population. It is highlighted the theme "Children of wartime".
