11 (22) December, 1790 during the Russian-Turkish war of 1787-1791 the armies of Alexander Suvorov captured impregnable fortress of Izmail. In memory of this important event, the Day of Military Glory of Russia is celebrated on December 24. This day marks the capture of the Turkish fortress of Izmail by Russian troops under the command of Alexander Suvorov in 1790.

The Nerchinsk Regional Museum (the Trans-Baikal Territory) presents an exhibition “The Shilka River: From Sretensk to Pokrovka”. It is timed to the navigation on the river, which was launched 165 years ago. On display are little-known images of the river, views of settlements along its banks, landscapes and steamboats, research drawings and maps.
