On January 16 (28), 1820 the first Russian Antarctic expedition on sloops ‘Vostok’ and ‘Mirnuy’ led by Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen and Michel Lazarev discovered Antarctica.

205 years ago, on January 16 (28th according to the new style), in 1820, humans first reached the legendary and majestic Antarctica. The discovery of this sixth continent on Earth was made by Russian navigators under the leadership of Thaddeus Bellingshausen and Mikhail Petrovich Lazarev.

The Presidential Library is located in the historic center of St. Petersburg, not far from St. Isaac's Cathedral, the Admiralty and the Bronze Horseman and is actively developing as a tourist attraction. The building of the Holy Synod, where the library is located, is itself an architectural monument. Previously, the Russian State Historical Archive was located here, and the modern electronic library opened its doors to visitors in 2009.

A monument to the outstanding Soviet writer Mikhail Alexandrovich Sholokhov was unveiled in one of the main squares of Alexandria in Egypt. The monument was created by the famous Egyptian sculptor Osama El-Serui and donated to the city from the Consulate General and the Russian House in Alexandria.
