In 2012 Russia will first host “The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC)” Forum. XXIV annual meeting of the leaders of APEC countries will take place in Vladivostok, 1 – 8 September. To mark the event the Presidential Library has developed a special digital collection including the materials that reflect the relations between the APEC and the Russian Federation which has been a member of the APEC since 1998, as well as the history of international relations in the Pacific Rim.

Russia and Turkey signed the Treaty of Jassy

December 29, 1791 (January 9, 1792) in a Bessarabian city of Jassy Russia and Turkey signed a peace treaty, which ended the Russian-Turkish war of 1787-91. The treaty confirmed annexation of Crimea and Kuban to Russia and established the Russian-Turkish border along the Dniester River.

Memory of the World: Festival of Living History in Suzdal

The festival of living history is held in Suzdal on August 26 and 27, it united participants from historical and military historical reconstruction clubs from all over Russia. Participants of the festival will camp on the bank of the Kamenka River and demonstrate the life of medieval people, as well as the martial art of that time.

On June 27, 1954 in Obninskoye village of Kaluga region, at the A. I. Laypunsky Physics and Energy Institute (Laboratory “B”) was launched the first nuclear power plant in the world equipped with one uranium and graphitic channel reactor with water heat carrier of 5 MW AM-1. This date marked the beginning of the nuclear energetics history.

The State University of Haiti (UEH) suffered considerable damage. Numerous buildings were severely damaged or completely destroyed by the earthquake. 11 of the 12 libraries of the University are on the ground. To support the resumption of classes at the beginning of January 2011 Libraries Without Borders (Bibliothèques Sans Frontières BSF) provides a quick solution for access to scientific and technical information for students, researchers and teachers in Haiti.
