In July of 1889 Paris congress of the 2nd International in memory of the protest action organized on May 1, 1886 by Chicago workers demanding eight hours working day (the strike and the demonstration grew into bloody skirmish with police) decided to establish the International Workers’ Day.

To the Day of Spring and Labor: The exhibition "International Worker’s Day" in Zavodoukovsk

May 1, 2018 the Zavodoukovsk Museum of Local History (the Tyumen region) presents the exhibition "International Worker’s Day", dedicated to the International Day of Spring and Labor. The exposition presents postcards of the outgoing Soviet era. Soviet illustrators created really beautiful works that very accurately reflected the atmosphere of that period.

The first Soviet labor code published
10 December 1918
On December 10, 1918 in the collection of statues of RSFSR the first labor code was published and thus took effect. It was the only systemized legislative act for regulating the labor of persons working on hire.

May 1 celebrates Spring and Labor Day in Russia. The holiday is a symbol of spring, work on the earth, it personifies respect for any productive labor. Rallies, competition and concert programs, promotions and flash mobs are held throughout the country in cultural institutions, squares and streets, parks and gardens.

Dyakin and the political history of Russia in the 19th – early 20th centuries”, dedicated to the historian Valentin Dyakin (1930–1994). This was the third meeting of the series of lectures "Outstanding Historians of the 19th-20th Centuries". The event is organized jointly with the St. Petersburg Institute of History of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
