Museums of Russia: Restored private rooms of Emperor Nicholas II opened at the Tsarskoe Selo State Museum and Heritage Site

The Tsarskoe Selo State Museum and Heritage Site opened the first thirteen interiors of the Alexander Palace just after restoration. It is the private apartments of Emperor Nicholas II and his wife Alexandra Feodorovna. The large-scale renovation began in 2012. The palace was closed to visitors for the last seven years. The works at the Alexander Palace will be finished no earlier than 2023.

The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts (Moscow) for the first time in Russia presents from March 28, 2018 an exhibition of masterpieces of the Leiden collection of Thomas S. Kaplan and his wife Daphne Recanati-Kaplan - one of the largest and most significant private collections of Dutch painting of the XVII century. The exposition presents 82 works, none of which was previously exhibited in Russia, - eighty paintings and two drawings.

125 years ago, on May 24, 1900, to the thunder of artillery salutes from ships standing on the Neva, the 1st-rank cruiser Aurora was launched. The event was held in a solemn atmosphere, in the presence of Nicholas II, the Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna, the wife of Emperor Alexandra Feodorovna, admirals and generals, engineers, workers, sailors, numerous guests, foreign ambassadors and military attaches. The ceremony was attended by a detachment of warships of the Baltic Fleet.

Pyotr Apraksin coming from the Apraksin family, the eldest son of the stolnik Matvey Vasilyevich, brother of F. M. Apraksin and Tsarina Marfa Matveyevna, wife of Tsar Fedor Alekseevich was born on June 24 (July 4), 1659. He began his service with the rank of a room attendant (1677), then became a courtier (1689). He was a close associate of Peter I. In 1692-1694 he served as governor in Pskov, in 1697 - Dec. 1699/Jan. 1700s - in Novgorod.

The activities of the Imperial Russian Red Cross Society are reflected in the museum, opened in the Ilyinskoye-Usovo Manor Complex near Moscow in Krasnogorsk, in the historic estate of the Romanovs - Grand Prince Sergei and his wife Elizaveta Feodorovna. This building housed an infirmary for the wounded and crippled soldiers of the Russo-Japanese War, equipped by Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna in 1905.
