On July 15, 1240, exactly 780 years ago, the young Novgorod Prince Alexander Yaroslavich, at the confluence of the Izhora River in the Neva, won a brilliant victory over the Swedes in a battle that not only had great military and political significance, but also gave the commander a nickname with which he went down in history of Russia - Alexander Nevsky.

At first the whole Petersburg watched as piles - 1250 piles on 6 meters in length each were hammered under the basis of a pedestal of the Alexander Column. Then - how they installed this stone colossus with the help of specially designed forests and cable tunnels. It took only 1 hour and 45 minutes, but the event involved 2400 soldiers, lifting the column on the pedestal.

"God is not in power, but in truth". According to chroniclers, the famous commander Alexander Yaroslavovich said this phrase before the battle on July 15, 1240. A battle between Russian and Swedish troops on the Neva River, forever entering into the history of Russian victories as the Battle of the Neva, took place on this day.
