In memory of “Angel’s guardian”

“The Legendary Man” exposition, that has been opened in the Presidential Library in commemoration of 95th birthday of Mikhail Mikhailovich Bobrov, will become one of the memorials to this remarkable man. What is more, the film dedicated to Mikhail Mikhailovich is nearing the completion. The film will feature his interviews and materials of meetings at the Presidential Library, including the last recording made in Komarovo shortly before his birthday.

The Presidential Library released the film “Mikhail Bobrov. Angel's Guardian”, devoted to life and professional activities of Mikhail Mikhailovich Bobrov, a Soviet and Russian military alpinist, military intelligence officer, master of sports of the USSR, honored trainer of Russia. The film will be live broadcasted on the library’s portal on January 30 at 19:00 and 21:00, and on January 31 at 6:00 and 8:00. It is also available on the library's website with the title “Audiovisual Materials”...

The famous Seventh (Leningrad) symphony of Dmitry Shostakovich (1906–1975) was first performed in besieged Leningrad 77 years ago on August 9, 1942. During the cultural and educational event held in the Presidential Library dedicated to the heroic defense of Leningrad, the 75th anniversary of the breakthrough of the blockade and the 74th anniversary of the lifting of the fascist blockade, a significant event took place: the transfer by representatives of the St. Petersburg State House of the Radio Library to the Senate of the 3rd score of the Seventh ("Leningrad") Dmitry Shostakovich's symphony.

Seventh Symphony by Dmitry Shostakovich - a rare score in the Presidential Library’s electronic collections

This year marks the 115th anniversary of the birth of Dmitry Shostakovich, the world famous Soviet composer, pianist and teacher. One of his most famous works is the Leningrad Symphony, performed in the besieged city. Articles and books are written about the history of its creation and execution, TV shows and films are shot. So, in the near future, the series directed by Alexander Kott The Seventh Symphony will be screened.

The Presidential Library will present more than 500,000 digital copies of archival materials, documents, film and photo chronicles from its electronic fund in conjunction with the St. Petersburg Library Society. The book salon will complete its work on May 28, 2017.

August 9, 2022 marks the 80th anniversary of the first performance in besieged Leningrad of Dmitri Shostakovich's famous Seventh Symphony. The music sounded in the Great Hall of the Leningrad Philharmonic, loudspeakers thundered through the streets. And this has already become a victory, a victory for the fortitude...After all, it is known that it was by August 1942 that the Wehrmacht troops planned to break and take Leningrad.

The Presidential Library showcases “postcards of mercy”

The multimedia exhibition “Postcards of Mercy”, opened on November 12, 2018 in the Presidential Library, showcases the images of “an angel in white” which allowed soften and romanticize the harsh reality of wartime. The project is timed to the centenary anniversary of the end of the First World War and implemented jointly with the Union of Deltiologists of Russia - the All-Russian public organization of collectors and lovers of postcards.

The poem "Recollection of the celebration on August 30, 1834" by Vasily Zhukovsky describes the unveiling of the Alexander Column. The poet compares two neighbouring monuments - the Bronze Horseman rising on a rude rock and the recently erected tall and narrow column decorated with the bronze war and peace trophies, and the eternal, glowing Angel on the top.

Plans for creation of a joint Russian – German history textbook were announced by the RF President Dmitry A. Medvedev during his meeting with the Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel on July 15 in Yekaterinburg. The work on the textbook will be completed within two years.
