On April 8 (19), 1783 the Empress Catherine the Great signed the Manifesto on annexation to the Russian state of Crimea peninsula and creation of Taurida region governed by prince G. A. Potyomkin who was conferred the title of Taurida for his service. The Federal Law of 13.03.1995 (as amended on 13.06.2023) "On the days of military glory and memorable dates of Russia" declared April 19th the Day of the admission of Crimea, Taman and Kuban to the Russian Empire (1783).
