Leonid Gaidai’s 95th anniversary was celebrated at the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Brest

The meeting of the Stopkadr Cinema Club at the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Brest in August was dedicated to the creativity of the Soviet filmmaker Leonid Y. Gaidai.

Leonid Gaidai presented the world a number of masterpieces that were included in the gold fund of Soviet cinema, and is a recognized classic of Soviet eccentric and satirical comedy. All his life he devoted to cinema, having gained the respect of spectators and colleagues. Gaidai's films of the 1960s and 1970s were a resounding success: almost the entire population of the USSR looked at them. Humor of Gaidai was understood throughout the world: over his comedies they laughed in Prague, Beijing, New York, they collected Soviet and international prizes.

The participants of the event were told how Leonid Iovich made films, how seriously and responsibly he approached the choice of actors, editing, writing scripts, music, replicas of the characters. Many did not realize that sometimes quoted Gaidai’s films, using the phrases of his characters. To receive an answer about the secret of the popularity of these films helped the videos with the opinions of actors and critics: Leonid Gaidai did not make his films for the sake of success, box office and prizes, but sincerely wanted to be funny, recognizing one standard of success - the viewer.

The comedy of Leonid Gaidai is a good cinema, which will always be relevant. This was seen by the participants of the meeting, representing different generations, having watched the film "The Captive of the Caucasus, or Shurik's New Adventures".

The Presidential Library portal features electronic collection "To the Year of Russian Cinema". The collection, timed to coincide with the Year of Cinema in Russia, includes official documents, studies, various graphic materials (posters, announcements, postcards, etc.), revealing various aspects of the development of Russian cinema since the beginning of the 20th century, as well as representing individual films and actors of Russian and Soviet cinema. The collection includes about 600 documents.
