The Presidential Library - a participant of the All-Russian Conference "Library Frontier"

On February 14, 2022 the Presidential Library will take part in the All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference "Library Frontier: New Meanings, Challenges, Ideas and Practices" marking the 140th anniversary of the National Library of Republic of Buryatia.

The main directions of the conference will be the development of state and municipal libraries in Russia in the context of the implementation of the National project "Culture"; formation and development of librarianship in Buryatia; local history activities of libraries as a basis for preserving the unique documents of the regions; library for the digital society: project activities in the online space; problems of personnel training for the library and information sphere.

The event, which will be held online on the Zoom platform, will be attended by representatives of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Culture of Republic of Buryatia, heads and employees of libraries, museums and archives, scientists and teachers.

The conference is timed to coincide with the opening of a new building of the National Library and a large-scale reconstruction of the old premises. According to Director of Information Resources of the Presidential Library Elena Zhabko a new level of service and new technical capabilities will attract even more readers to the National Library of Republic of Buryatia, make it accessible to all users, and open up the widest prospects for enlightenment, information, cultural and educational work. Elena Zhabko also noted the importance of forming the Buryatika electronic library, which includes digitized documents on the history and culture of the republic and expressed confidence that cooperation with the Presidential Library would develop.

The conference will feature a presentation "Materials on the history of Republic of Buryatia in the Presidential Library's collections" by a specialist of the Presidential Library Dmitry Kosenko. He will consider the features of working with information resources on the example of digital collections dedicated to Russian regions and will present an overview of materials on the history of Republic of Buryatia in the Presidential Library's collections.

The collection Republic of Buryatia: Pages of History is available on the Presidential Library’s portal. The statistical and cartographic materials included in the collection, archival documents, studies and essays of the mid-19th - mid-20th centuries spotlight the demographic, ethnographic, socio-political and socio-economic aspects of the history of Republic of Buryatia. The current Constitution of Republic of Buryatia is also presented.
