
Resources of Presidential Library presented at International Christmas Readings in Murmansk
On December 11, 2024, the Murmansk State Regional Universal Scientific Library, based on the Regional Center of the Presidential Library hosted the regional stage of the XXXIII International Christmas Educational Readings titled 80th Anniversary of the Great Victory: Memory and Spiritual Experience of Generations. The event was organized with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Murmansk Oblast, in cooperation with the Murmansk metropolitan area and the Regional Institute for Educational Development.
The Moscow State Educational University served as a gathering place for those interested in the topic of preserving historical memory and promoting patriotic education among young people during the international educational readings.
Thus, teachers from the Murmansk region participated in the work of five thematic sections: Historical knowledge and the historical memory of the Great Patriotic War, Preserving the historical memory of the Great War in preschool educational organizations, Legacy of Victory and relevant issues of patriotic education for the younger generation, Museums as custodians of memory and regional knowledge.
Within the framework of the event, participants were introduced to the resources of the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library. Participants were informed that the materials in the library's collection Memory of the Great Victory could be used for history lessons, class hours, extracurricular activities, and museum classes. Teachers also learned about multimedia lessons from the Presidential Library, such as Hero City of Leningrad. 1941-1944 and World War II and the Great Patriotic War through the testimonies of the era, as well as the project Presidential Library for Teachers: Teaching with Primary Sources, virtual tours of Russian museums are available on the Library's portal.
On the portal of the Presidential Library, readers can learn the collection of digitized archival documents, film, and photographic materials titled World War II in Archival Documents. The collection currently contains nearly 14,000 materials, including maps, diagrams, periodicals, photographs, and newsreels from the period between January 1, 1933 and December 31, 1944.
On December 5, 2016, 400 resolutions of the USSR's State Defense Committee (GKO), numbered 3235-3637, for the period between April 22 and June 23, 1943, were added to this collection, which is permanently stored at the Russian State Archive of Socio-Political History (RGASPI). Thanks to the Presidential Library's portal, these documents can now be accessed from anywhere in the world.
