Tosno residents get access to the Presidential Library resources

Today, on September 1, 2017, as part of dedicated to the Day of Knowledge sequence of events, an official opening ceremony of the electronic reading room of the Presidential Library was held on the basis of The University Preparatory School № 2 in Tosno. New remote access center is the result of the implementation of signed on August 4, 2017, cooperation agreement between two institutions.

Representatives of the Presidential Library, the Education Committee of the Tosno District Administration, the pedagogical staff and school students of the upper grades, representatives of the district mass media took part in the event.

The opening of a remote electronic reading room will offer a convenient access to the entire Presidential Library stock, which currently contains more than 550 thousand entries. These are digital copies of published editions and archival documents, audio and video recordings, school textbooks and other materials reflecting the centuries-old history of Russian statehood, theory and practice of law, as well as the Russian language as a state language of Russian Federation. Among the stock materials there are many electronic copies of books and documents revealing the history of the Leningrad Oblast. Among them are the digital copies of research works, essays, archival documents, photo and video materials, revealing the geographic, socio-economic, socio-political and other aspects of the history of the Leningrad Oblast during the XVIII — the early XX century.

Within the framework of the cooperation agreement between the Presidential Library and the preparatory school, its students will be able to take an active part in the scientific, educational and outreach and awareness raising work of the library. These include video lectures of “Knowledge of Russia” series, the “Russia in the Electronic World” Annual Interactive Olympiad for Schoolchildren in History, Social Studies and the Russian Language, the already customary Knowledge Forum and much more. Also, everyone is invited to participate in the “Foreign View” Multimedia Competition.

The digital copies of textbooks on history, literature and the Russian language will be particularly useful for school students and teachers. Besides recent textbooks there are also some pre-revolutionary editions among these manuals, as well as the ones released in Soviet epoch.

It stands to mention, that the partnership relations between the Presidential Library and the Leningrad Oblast are actively developing. Signed on September 23, 2014, agreement between the library and the regional government helps launching joint educational and cultural projects, exchanging experience, strengthening the ideas of statehood, citizenship and patriotism in the public conscience. During this time 15 institutions of culture and education of the Leningrad Oblast got connected to the resources of the Presidential Library.

In addition, the cooperation is developing along the course of other accomplishments of the Presidential Library. On September 4, 2017, the grand opening of the exhibition dedicated to two important events in the history of the North-West Region of Russia will be held: the 90th anniversary of the Leningrad and the 80th anniversary of the Vologda oblasts. The exposition includes photo albums dedicated to the famous regional architectural monuments, a map of the Leningrad Oblast from 1927, photographs, books, newspaper and magazine articles dedicated to the economic regionalization, a beginning of the Leningrad Oblast, a paths of collectivization and industrialization. At the exhibition you can also see photographs of the famous Tosno photographer Yevgeny Petrovich Astashenkov. His photographs are also included in the electronic fund of the Presidential Library.
