Events on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the signing of the truce in the course of the First World War were held in Brest

At the invitation of the Brest District Executive Committee, Elena Maslova, head of the Brest branch of the Rossotrudnichestvo in the Republic of Belarus, took part in the V International Military Patriotic Festival, which was devoted to signing a military truce on the Eastern Front in 1917.

The festival was held from 15 to 17 December in the historical-memorial museum "The Homestead of the Germans" in Skoki village in the Brest region.

Within the framework of the festival, on December 15, an international conference "The Great European War. Centenary", dedicated to the First World War, was held.

Welcoming the participants of the conference, Elena Maslova stressed that the anniversary dates revive the historical truth about the First World War, contribute to the comprehension and investigation of events. "By conducting such events, we open and admire examples of personal courage and military art, true patriotism of Russian soldiers and officers, the whole of Russian society", - she said.

Elena Maslova spoke about the events timed to the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the First World War, held by Rossotrudnichestvo and its missions around the world in 2014: the opening of the necropolis in Serbia, the publication by the Rossotrudnichestvo in Ukraine of the book "War of 1914-1917. From the personal photo album of the general from the cavalry of Count FA Keller", with the support of the RCSC in Brest the international scientific conference" The Military and Historical Heritage of the First World War in the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation: Problems of Study, Preservation and Use" on the basis of the Y. Kupala Grodno State University.

On the same day, the opening of a thematic exhibition and a theatrical performance of the signing of the armistice in Skoka, which later led to the conclusion of the Brest Peace, was held.

The most spectacular part of the festival was the military-historical reconstruction of the battles of 1916-1917 in the park zone of the Nemcevichi manor on December 16. More than 100 reconstructors from 10 military-historical clubs of Belarus, Russia and Poland, including cavalrymen, took part in the restoration of the events of 100 years ago. For the reconstruction, imitations of dug-out fortifications, lines of opposing trenches and other military positions were created. In the course of the action cavalry, idle weapons of the First World War, pyrotechnic special effects, were used. Those who wished was able to get familiar with the trench life of soldiers, taste the soldiers' kasha.

The Presidential Library portal features electronic collection "The First World War (1914-1918)". The main materials for presentation in the collection are studies, journalism, official documents, archival materials (including a card file of war heroes), leaflets and fiction. Particular attention is paid to memoirs and figurative sources, reflecting the participation of Russia in the First World War.

The collection includes more than 1200 documents. For its preparation, numerous materials were used from the funds of the N. A Dobrolyubov Arkhangelsk Regional Scientific Library, the Belgorod State Universal Scientific Library, the Library of the US Congress, the Library for Natural Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Military History Museum of Artillery, the Engineer and Signal Corps of the Defence Ministry of the Russian Federation, etc.
