Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, born on September 5, 1857 in Russia, was a scientist and the founder of modern space exploration. He was the first to justify the possibility of interplanetary communication and the use of rockets for this purpose.

On October 3 1967 the first in the world and the largest in Russia museum dedicated to the history of space exploration — the Konstantin E. Tsiolkovsky State Museum of the History of Cosmonautics (GMIK) was inaugurated in Kaluga.

One of the largest and bloodiest battles of the Great Patriotic War and World War II - the battle at the Kursk salient (also known as the Kursk bulge), or the Battle of Kursk, came to an end 76 years ago, on August 23, 1943. Some of the materials of the electronic collection Memory of the Great Victory on the Presidential Library’s portal are devoted to it. It includes official documents, photographs and newsreels, wartime newspapers, books, and first-hand accounts of participants.

A new project Breakthrough 80 was launched on the eve of the anniversary date of breakthrough of the siege of Leningrad. The information partner is the Presidential Library.

He is the creator of the Russian National Opera and the founder of the Russian school of art music. The Presidential Library has been receiving materials as part of a large-scale campaign launched last November in an effort to collect first-hand accounts of the siege. This time we got a letter from Kasym Maulenov, son of the prominent Kazakh poet Syrbai Maulenov, who defended Leningrad on the Volkhov Front, was seriously wounded and kept the memories of that time alive through his whole life.
