The Presidential Library marking the day of the beginning of the siege of Leningrad

On September 8, 1941, a siege ring closed around Leningrad, which squeezed the city until January 18, 1943 the troops of the Leningrad and Volkhov fronts joined near the southern shore of Lake Ladoga. 82 years have passed since the beginning of those terrible events. On November 19, 2022, the exhibition Repin. The Distant Near opened in the Primorye Art Gallery (Vladivostok). For the first time, the creative heritage of the remarkable Russian painter Ilya Repin is presented on such scale. The exposition features over eighty works of painting and graphics from the museums of Russia and Republic of Belarus, as well as archival documents and memorabilia of the painter.

In the past masks had a more serious purpose, often playing a major role in the ceremonies and rituals of many ethnic groups. The State Museum of the East on July 14 presented its collection of masks and other anthropomorphic images found in archeological excavations on the territory of Central Asia to Chukotka.

The exhibition Photography in Astrakhan has opened in the Astrakhan Local History Museum. 2023 is an anniversary year for several well-known Astrakhan studios and photographers. Over a hundred photographers worked in Astrakhan Region from 1861 to 1920, half of them – in the city itself. Thirty photographers were widely known far beyond the region.
