Anniversary of tragic events at Lena goldfields (“Lena Massacre”)
17 April 1912
4 (17) April 1912, during a strike at the fields of the Lena gold-mining partnership "Lenzoloto", located near the town of Bodaybo, Irkutsk Province, along the Lena River and its tributaries, Vitim and Olekma, government troops opened fire against the workers. The tragic events were made part of historical literature and nonfiction under the name "The Lena Massacre."

On November 20th, 2024 at 16:00 Moscow time, the Presidential Library will be hosting a lecture on the work of SMERSH agents during the Great Patriotic War to protect Leningrad. The event will take place on the eve of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, which will be celebrated in 2025.

November 4 marks one of the most important public holidays – the National Unity Day. The Presidential Library devoted this event to the opening of the exhibition "Traditional Confessions: for the Benefit of a Strong Russia". The exposition presents about 100 pictures of churches, as well as information about the history of the parishes of various faiths.

Formation of Kemerovo Region

The origins of the very name Kuznetsk Land go back to the ancestors of modern Shors who lived in the upper reaches of the Tom, Mras-Su, and Kondoma Rivers, and who were still called kuznetsy (blacksmiths) by Siberian chroniclers for their ability to obtain iron from ore. Active settlement by Russian colonists of the Upper and Middle Pritomye began in the 17th century during the reign of Mikhail Feodorovich. Kuznetsky (1618), Sosnovsky (1657), Verkhotomsky (1665) and later Mungatsky (1715)...
