The collection is devoted to the 135th anniversary of Sergei Mironovich Kirov (Kostrikov) (1886-1934), the Soviet party leader and politician. 

He was a participant in the Revolutionary movement (since 1904), the Chairman of the Interim Military Revolutionary Committee of Astrakhan Territory (1919), the Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan (1921-1926), the First Secretary of the Leningrad Provincial Committee (Regional Committee) and City Committee of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) and the North-Western Bureau of the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) (1926-1934), member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) (since 1930), Secretary and member of the Organizing Bureau of the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) (since 1934), member of the Presidium of the Central Executive Committee of the USSR.

The collection features speeches, reports and articles by Sergei Kirov in published the 1920-1940s; biographical essays and memoirs about Kirov, issued after his death; materials from the Leningrad and central press of the 1930s-40s, archival documents from the Civil War period, as well as photographs and postcards with portraits of Sergei Kirov and memorable places associated with him. The collection includes materials provided by the State Public Historical Library, the State Archives of the Russian Federation, the Main Archival Administration of Moscow, the Sankt-Peterburgskie Vedomosti Publishing House, the editorial office of the Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper, the Children's Postcard Museum, the Karl Bulla Historical Photography Foundation and private collections.
