The Presidential library: New acquisitions

The Presidential Library web site has published materials on Russian history from its collection.

The historical and ethnographic study of the famous historian Nikolai Kostomarov Essay of domestic life and manners of the Great Russian people in the XVI and XVII centuries (St. Petersburg, 1860) tells about the emergence of Russian cities, villages, about the way of life, dispensation order about clothing, food, family customs, holidays, games, amusements and beliefs of Russian people of before Peter time.

To this art form as a splint that is simple in technology and the capacity of the image are dedicated  books of historian and collector Dmitry Alexandrovich Rovinsky Russian folk pictures (St. Petersburg, 1900-1901) and Nicholas Alexandrovich Kozhin People’s splint of the second half of the XIX century and the modern (L., 1929).

The book The Spirit of the great Suvorov, or Anecdotes of the original Prince of Italy Count Alexander Suvorov Rymniksky (St. Petersburg, 1808) describes the personality of the commander, the distinctive features of his character, as well as the stories of his birth, campaigns and battles.

The travel essay of the artist, the first painter of the Arctic, polar explorer and writer Alexander Alexeevich Borisov Samoyedic peoples. From Pinega to the Kara Sea (St. Petersburg, 1907) describes the flora and fauna of the Far North, the быт life and beliefs of the indigenous people of the tundra. The edition illustrates 37 reproductions of paintings on single sheets.

The development of anti-Semitism in Germany, Austria-Hungary, of the small centers of Jewry in Europe before the end of the XIX century and the western Jewry at the beginning of the XX century before the World War is told in the story in the book of Semyon Makarovicha Dubnov Jews in Russia and Western Europe during the anti-Semitic reactions (M.; Pg., 1923).

The book of Nicholas Gavrilovich Kurganov The Russian universal grammar, or Universal pismoslovie (St. Petersburg, 1769) sets out the rules of grammar of the Russian language of the XVIII century. The edition includes “prisovokuplenie” consisting of the collection of Russian proverbs, the “short intricate stories”, a series of rhetorical exercises, puzzles, ancient apothegms, “learning conversations”, “collection of various poems”, and the dictionary of Slavic and foreign words with their interpretation.

“The notes, appropriate to the history, science, arts, manners, customs, and so on Chinese: Composed by preachers of the Christian faith in Beijing” (“Mémoires, concernant l'histoire, les sciences, les arts, les moeurs, les usages, ets. des Chinois. Par les missionnaires de Pekin”) were first published in Paris in 1776 - [1778] years. Subsequently, the “Notes…” were translated into Russian by poet, prose writer and translator Mikhail Ivanovich Verevkin and were published in six volumes, corresponding to the first French edition of the three volumes: Т. 1, т. 2, т. 3 (M., 1786), and т. 4 (Moscow, 1787), т. 5, т. 6 (Moscow, 1788). The work includes works of Chinese classical authors and the study of history, philosophy and literature of China.
