90 years ago, on December 1, 1934, during the middle of a working day in Smolny, Sergei Kirov, the secretary of the Leningrad Regional and City Committees of the CPSU(b), was fatally shot in his office.

The K. E. Tsiolkovsky State Museum of Cosmonautics opened an exhibition dedicated to the essay "Russian aeronautics. History and success" (1911). It is the joint work of many specialists edited by prominent people in the field of aeronautics and aviation N. A. Rynin and N. F. Naydenov.

January 24, 2018 in the N. G. Chernyshevsky Museum-Estate (Saratov) is opened an exhibition "Essays on the Gogol period of Russian literature". The exhibition is dedicated to Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol, whom N. G. Chernyshevsky called "the father of Russian prose culture", denoting his work as "Gogol period of Russian literature", which initiated critical realism.

Memories of Soviet generals and marshals of the Battle of Kursk

One of the largest and bloodiest battles of the Great Patriotic War and World War II - the battle at the Kursk salient (also known as the Kursk bulge), or the Battle of Kursk, came to an end 76 years ago, on August 23, 1943. Some of the materials of the electronic collection Memory of the Great Victory on the Presidential Library’s portal are devoted to it. It includes official documents, photographs and newsreels, wartime newspapers, books, and first-hand accounts of participants.

Mikhail Glinka in the memoirs of his contemporaries

On June 1st, 2024, the 220th anniversary of the birth of Russian composer Mikhail Ivanovich Glinka will be celebrated. He is the creator of the Russian National Opera and the founder of the Russian school of art music. The Presidential Library has posted a collection of digital copies of books, brochures, archival documents, and visual materials related to Glinka on Library's portal.

A new project Breakthrough 80 was launched on the eve of the anniversary date of breakthrough of the siege of Leningrad. The information partner is the Presidential Library.

May 15, 2018 marks the 220th anniversary of one of the leaders of the uprising on the Senatskaya Square on December 14, 1825, a member of the secret society "Union of Prosperity", a lyceum student of the first issue Ivan Ivanovich Pushchin. "My first friend, my priceless friend! .." A. S. Pushkin wrote a poem dedicated to him. And this title of "priceless friend" the closest companion of the poet from the Lyceum times confirmed his whole life.

The CD with recollections of writers who participated in the Great Patriotic War, has come out in Altai krai. The Presidential Library has been receiving materials as part of a large-scale campaign launched last November in an effort to collect first-hand accounts of the siege. This time we got a letter from Kasym Maulenov, son of the prominent Kazakh poet Syrbai Maulenov, who defended Leningrad on the Volkhov Front, was seriously wounded and kept the memories of that time alive through his whole life.

A lot has been written about the heroic deeds of medical workers during the Great Patriotic War. They carried the wounded off the battlefield under heavy fire and, forgetting about their own safety, fought for the lives of everyone for days on end. Thanks to their efforts, about 17 million Red Army soldiers who were wounded or sick during the war were returned to active duty.
