The Presidential Library: New Acquisitions

In commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War the Presidential Library collection was replenished with new materials.

The section dedicated to the perpetuation of The perpetuation of the memory of the Great Patriotic War includes images of separate memorials and monuments dedicated to the Great Patriotic War, located in different parts of our country. The photographs show numerous monuments to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War, the monuments on the mass graves of the fallen Soviet soldiers and the monuments to the residents of villages and towns who have lost their lives:

 

Belgorod Region

 

1.    Hotmyzhsk Village. A memorial complex to “Victorious Warrior” at the mass grave of soldiers killed in the battles against the Nazi invaders in 1943 (36 men who took part in the Belgorod-Kharkov operation of Soviet troops in August 1943 are buried in a mass grave of);

2.    Станция Кулиновка. Памятный знак в честь Героя Советского Союза Николая Павловича Евсюкова

(Company commander of the 6th Guards Mechanized Brigade (2nd Guards Mechanized Corps, 46th Army, 2nd Ukrainian Front) Guard First Lieutenant Yevsukov from October 29 to November 3, 1944, has participated in the defeat of the enemy garrison in the Ullo village (on the South-East of Budapest, Hungary), where about 200 German soldiers were destroyed and 100 German soldiers and officers were captured. Killed in military action on November 3, 1944);

3.    Село Акулиновка. Могила старшего сержанта Григория Исаевича Пожи (Killed during the liberation of Akulinovka village, August 6, 1943);

4.    Село Грузское. Памятный знак в честь односельчан, погибших в боях с фашистскими захватчиками в 1943 г. (The monument is installed in 1968 г.).

Krasnoyarsk Territory

 

1.    Село Новотроицкое. Памятник погибшим в Великой Отечественной войне

(The monument is installed in 1965);

2.    Село Тесь. Мемориал воинам-тесинцам, павшим на полях сражений в годы Великой Отечественной войны (The monument is installed in 1984);

3. Село Знаменка. Памятник жителям, погибшим в годы Великой Отечественной войны (The monument is installed in 1965).

 

Murmansk Region

 

1. Мемориальный комплекс «Морская душа» (includes a monument to the Liberator Soldier, a deckhouse of diesel submarine of "641-B" project and the Walk of Fame, where the memorial plates established to each Hero of the Soviet Union from the town of Polyarny);

2. Памятник героям-подводникам Северного флота, павшим в борьбе с немецкими захватчиками в годы Великой Отечественной войны (The monument was opened on June 22, 1944);

 

3. Памятник на могиле экипажа сторожевого корабля "СКР-31", погибшего 12 мая 1943 г. (The ship has failed in a result of the attack with 6 German fighters);

 

4. Памятник на могиле экипажа эсминца "Стремительный" ("Stremitelny" fleet destroyer went down on July 20, 1941 when a raid by German bombers in the Polar city harbor);

5. Памятник герою-подводнику Ф. А. Видяеву (Commander of the "Y-421" submarine, the holder of three Orders of the Red Banner and the Order of the British Empire of 4th degree, Lieutenant Feodor Alekseevich Vidyaev was killed in July 1943 during a combat mission).

 

The Republic of Dagestan

 

1. Бюст Героя Советского Союза Шамсулы Алиева (Deputy battalion commander of the 1135th Infantry Regiment of the 339th Infantry Division of the 56th Army of the North Caucasus Front, Hero of the Soviet Union, Captain Shamsul Fayzullaevich Aliyev died in battle on the outskirts of Kerch in November 1943);

2. Мемориал "Братское кладбище" (The "Fraternal Cemetery" memorial is located on the site of a hospital burial place for soldiers who died of wounds during 1941-1945 years of the Great Patriotic War);

3. Мемориал "Вечный огонь" (Established in 1985 to the 40th anniversary of the victory in World War II);

 

4. Музей "Боевая слава" (The "Battle Glory" museum was created in 1991 on the initiative of the honored teacher DASSR, local historian G. A. Malkin and at the insistence of the veterans of the Great Patriotic War. The exposition is dedicated to the of the Great Patriotic War, the Afghan and Chechen events).

Tomsk region

 

1.    Село Красный Яр. Мемориал "Воинам-красноярцам, погибшим в боях за Родину" (The opening of the memorial took place on October 16, 2014);

2. Село Иштан. Памятник жителям села, погибшим в годы Великой Отечественной войны (The monument was opened on May 9, 1985, in honor of the 40th anniversary of the Victory);

3. Село Никольское. Памятник жителям села, погибшим в годы Великой Отечественной войны (The opening of the monument took place in November 1976).

 

St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region

 

1. Мемориал "Братская воинская могила советских воинов, погибших в Великую Отечественную войну" (In July 1955 in the Upper Park of Krasnoye Selo were reburied the remains of the soldiers from the military cemeteries, communal and individual graves found in the territory of Krasnoselsky District. In 2009, a memorial was rebuilt according to the plan of architect E. Emelyanov.);

2. Мемориальная доска, посвященная советским войскам, освободившим Красное Село (the memorial plaque is established in 1970-s);

3. Братская могила гвардейцев, погибших при снятии блокады Ленинграда, и Героев Советского Союза Бойцова И. М., Волкова А. И., Куликова И. Н. (the memorial is established in 1979).

 

Here is some more about the M. K. Anikushin Studio. "The Personal Biography" exhibition album. The Branch of the M. K. Anikushin Studio State Museum of Urban Sculpture is a multifunctional cultural center with a memorial exposition and an art space for the contemporary exhibitions, located in the former studio of the St. Petersburg’s local sculptor Mikhail Konstantinovich Anikushin. The architect F. A. Gepner purposely designed a building for Anikushin in 1969. The album includes some photographs of an interior of the "Personal Biography" exhibition. The exposition name is associated with a military biography of Anikushin. During the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 sculptor has served at the front and has survived the siege of Leningrad. The exhibition presents the plaster models of the sculptural group of monument "To Heroic Defenders of Leningrad." The exhibition is dedicated to the double anniversary - the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the 40th anniversary of the opening of the monument "To Heroic Defenders of Leningrad."

I would like to emphasize the movie entitled the Victory is One for All (9:22). The movie tells about the invaluable contribution to Victory in the Great Patriotic War of all sixteen of the socialist republics that were constituted the USSR, about a collective struggle of the peoples of the USSR against fascism. The film shows the photographs of dedicated to the Victory monuments, military cemeteries, memorials, and obelisks.

Another section of the Defenders of the Fatherland collection was added with new videos and publications.

A movie entitled the One More Day (10:08) tells a story of a veteran of World War II, a local Pskov resident B. S. Sharankov. In focus of this work are the events of the first days of the war during the German occupation. A veteran shares his memories of participating in the partisan resistance movement, as well as in the military engagements of the regular army.

We Remember. We Proud of (14:21) movie is dedicated to the war veterans-poets associated with the Penza Region.

The collected "Memories of the War from the Family Archives" Volume 1 (SPB, 2010), Volume 2 (SPB, 2015) include the recollections of the teachers and the students of gymnasium № 148 named after Cervantes of Kalinin District of St. Petersburg about their relatives, who have survived the Great Patriotic War. The essays tell about the participants of combat operations, and also the workers in the rear front, those who remained in occupied territory or were taken to work in Germany.

An arrangement of new materials for the collection will continue.
